Current Use

The current use of the Land Lab is Teaching and Research. Faculty from Geography, Environmental and Plant Biology, and Biological Sciences use the Land Lab as a core component of field-based courses. In addition, faculty from other departments, e.g. Earth and Environmental Geosciences, have used the Land Lab for field trips.

History

The Land Lab was once part of the grounds of the former Athens Mental Health Facility. The Land Lab was approved by the 91探花 Board of Trustees in 1989 based on a proposal developed by faculty in the (then) Departments of Botany and Zoological and Biomedical Sciences). The faculty included Gerald Svendsen, Phil Cantino, and Scott Moody. The Land Lab has been managed by an Advisory Committee (originally created by Dean Donald Ecklemann and Associate Dean Harold "Spike" Molineau).
