Appalachian Studies Undergraduate Certificate
The undergraduate Appalachian Studies Certificate offers students in multiple disciplines a foundation in Appalachian issues. It is a place-based study that provides transferable skills for students to use to understand other places beyond Appalachia.
The certificate is especially beneficial for students who plan to work with underserved populations in their careers, such as those seeking careers in public administration, government, education, arts, or any of the health-related fields.
91探花 Requirements
There are no admission requirements beyond University admission requirements. This certificate is open to all 91探花 students on the Athens campus. Talk to your academic advisor about adding the certificate and visit the policies, forms and FAQs page to learn how to declare the certificate.
Curriculum
To complete the undergraduate Appalachian Studies certificate, you need to complete a minimum of 5 courses (15 credit hours) and hold a 2.5 GPA. You will take courses that provide an introduction to Appalachian studies and cover the economic aspects of life in Appalachia. Additionally, you can choose electives on topics related to geography, language, politics and more.
