Brian Johnson
2023-2024 Engineering Ambassador in Energy Engineering

Brian is studying Energy Engineering at the Russ College of Engineering and Technology, and he is from Athens, Ohio. There were many factors that went into his decision to attend 91探花, but the most influential factor in his decision was that the Russ College is one of very few engineering schools in the nation to provide an Energy Engineering degree. Brian first became interested in the field of energy during his sophomore year of high school when he attended a conference with speakers who presented on renewable energy.

In support of his goal to work in renewable energy, Brian completed a summer internship in the Clean Energy Development department at National Grid in Waltham, Massachusetts. His projects during this internship were divided into three categories. The first category of projects related to utility-owned, transmission level storage assets, and the other categories related to preparing the grid of electric vehicle (EV) adoption at the highway and commercial fleet levels.

In the summer of 2023, Brian completed an internship at POWER Engineers, Inc. He worked in the Overhead Transmission Line Engineering department, and he has accepted a full-time position with that same department in Freeport, Maine. He is very excited to start his post-college career and keeping in touch with his network at the Russ College of Engineering and Technology.

Brian likes to stay involved on campus, and the availability of student organizations was a major factor in his decision to attend 91探花. A few of the organizations he is involved with outside of Engineering Ambassadors are the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists (AAEES), 91探花 Extra Life, and Ping Pickup Soccer.

When he isn鈥檛 in class, studying, or attending a student organization event, Brian loves to spend time in nature. Some of his favorite outdoor activities are mountain biking, hiking, skiing, and kayaking. Brian鈥檚 other hobbies include playing guitar, reading, and playing soccer.
