Expert Bio

Kessler is a professor of innovative learning design and technology in the Educational Studies department in the Patton College of Education at 91探花. He has also been the director of the Language Resource Center and Associate Professor of Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) in the Department of Linguistics in the College of Arts and Sciences.

He has written numerous research articles, book chapters, books, and other publications. He has also delivered many invited keynote and featured talks around the world. His research addresses technology, learning, and language use with an emphasis on teacher preparation. He has held a number of professional leadership positions, including as president of the Computer Assisted Language Instruction Consortium (CALICO), president of the Ohio Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), and International TESOL CALL Interest Section chair.

He also has extensive experience in academic publishing. He is the editor of the CALICO Equinox book series, Advances in CALL Practice & Research, the Language Learning & Technology journal forum, Language Teaching & Technology, and many other comprehensive collections. At 91探花, he is coordinator of the Ph.D. and M.Ed. programs in Instructional Technology and chair of the Faculty Technology Advisory Group, as well as a Community Engaged Scholar.

In addition to these roles, he is also currently on the board of directors of the Athens Conservancy, as well as the friends of Lake Hope, and is a faculty mentor to the Ohio Fellows program, which often does service work in the local community.
