Derek R. Peterson, a historian of east Africa, has been .

As a winner of the 鈥済enius grant,鈥 he will receive $625,000 over five years, no strings attached, in recognition of what the foundation calls grantees鈥 鈥渆xtraordinary originality and dedication in their creative pursuits and a marked capacity for self-direction.鈥

Peterson, who teaches at the University of Michigan, is a longtime collaborator of 91探花 Press, known for its leadership in African studies publishing. Together with Jean Allman and Allen Isaacman, he is series editor for the press鈥檚 vanguard . With Harri Englund and Christopher Warnes, Peterson also is the series editor for the press鈥檚 .

Joanna Mishtal has won the 2017 Adele E. Clarke Book Award from ReproNetwork, an interdisciplinary coalition of scholars who study reproduction, for 鈥,鈥 published in 2015 by 91探花 Press.
