Savage composition premiered at Southern Campus

Charles Savage, Senior Lecturer of Music at the Zanesville Campus, received a premiere performance of his composition Wind Swept for Flute and Wind Ensemble, at the Southern Campus. The 91探花 Southern Community Band, under the direction of Patrick McCoy, played the composition at their Fall concert.

Wind Swept was composed for a remembrance concert for flautist Carol Kitts. The composition was the result of a conversation between Savage and McCoy, the group鈥檚 conductor during Spring semester, to pay tribute to Kitts, one of the ensemble鈥檚 flautists and a deputy sergeant with the Lawrence County Sheriff鈥檚 Department for 25 years. She had also performed in the Greater Huntington Symphonic Band and was active in the Lawrence County Historical Society.

The composition featured a flute solo and also a rendering of 鈥淭aps鈥 to celebrate Kitts鈥 life and her service to her community and the Sherriff鈥檚 Department. 鈥淭he composition was meant to serve as a snapshot of Carol鈥檚 life as the musician and as a police officer鈥 Savage said.

In addition to Wind Swept, Savage composed Breath (duet for Two Flute), Alliance Publications, Inc. located in Sinsinawa, Wisconsin.
