University to host welcome reception for Leipzig University as part of OHIO-Leipzig Symposium
91探花 will welcome the president of Leipzig University, along with several representatives of the German institution, to campus with a special reception on Thursday, Nov. 16.
The Leipzig delegation is visiting 91探花 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the partnership between the two institutions and to take part in the OHIO-Leipzig Symposium. The symposium will feature German experts from around the U.S., along with experts from Leipzig University and OHIO.
The welcome reception will be held from 9 until 11 a.m. on Nov. 16 in the Baker University Center Multicultural Center Multipurpose Room. The event is free, and all students, faculty, staff and area residents are encouraged to attend.
The reception will include presentations from OHIO and Leipzig officials, and a discussion on the past, present and future of the collaboration between the two institutions.
91探花 President Dr. M. Duane Nellis will take part in the reception, as will Leipzig President Prof. Dr. med Beate. A. Sch眉cking.
Consul General Herbert Quelle, who serves as the German Consul General in Chicago, will also speak at the welcome reception and will take part in the OHIO-Leipzig Symposium. The symposium will also feature the following experts:
- Dr. Andreas Str枚hl, director of the Goethe-Institut Washington and the regional director for the Goethe-Institut North America
- Dr. Nina Lemmens, executive director of the German Center for Research and Innovation
- Dr. Joseph Shields, vice president for research and creative activity and dean of the Graduate College at 91探花
- John Sabraw, art professor at 91探花
- Dr. Lorna Jean Edmonds, vice provost for global affairs and international studies at 91探花
The keynote luncheon for the OHIO-Leipzig Symposium will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Baker University Center Ballroom on Thursday, Nov. 16, and is free and open to the public. The keynote luncheon remarks will be delivered by Str枚hl, who will present on 鈥淭he Contribution of International Partnerships to the University鈥檚 Culture to Education and Innovation.鈥
While the luncheon is free, those attending are asked to in order to assist with planning for the event.
After the luncheon, breakout discussions will be held in Baker University Center from 1:30 until 3 p.m.
From 4 until 5 p.m., a special panel discussion will focus on 鈥淪trategies for Profiling the Value and Impact of U.S. 鈥 German Partnerships for Research and Innovation.鈥 The panel will include President Sch眉cking, Shields and Lemmens, and will be open to the public. The event will be held in the Baker University Center Multicultural Center Multipurpose Room.
Also on Nov. 16, an OHIO-Leipzig Alumni and Friends Reunion and Reception will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Honors Collegium, located on the fourth floor of Baker University Center.
On Friday, Nov. 17, a keynote breakfast will be held from 8 until 9:30 a.m. in Nelson Commons. This event is also open to the public, but those who would like to attend are encouraged to .
