Four projects receive Baker Fund support during fall 2017 cycle

Proposals now accepted for spring awards cycle

The John C. Baker Fund awarded $43,022 total to four faculty proposals for research, scholarship and creative work during fall semester 2017.

Endowed in 1961 by a gift of more than $612,000 from 1926 College of Arts and Sciences graduate Edwin L. Kennedy and his wife, Ruth, a 1930 graduate of the Patton College of Education, The John C. Baker Fund was established to support faculty improvement and research efforts. Up to $12,000 is available for each award.

The Baker Fund committee received 10 proposals requesting $108,222 total.

Awardees:

  1. Ilana Chertok and Zelalem Haile, Nursing and Social Medicine (Dublin)
    Timing of Lactogenesis II among Women with and without Gestational Diabetes
    Amount Funded: $12,000

  2. Daniel Skinner and Berkeley Franz, Social Medicine (Athens and Dublin)
    Medical Urbanism
    Amount Funded: $9,002

  3. Ziad Abu-Rish, History
    Social Conflict and Institution Building in the Making of Post-Colonial Lebanon, 1943
    Amount Funded: $11,115

  4. Laura Brown and Joann Benigno, Music Therapy and Communication Sciences & Disorders
    Camp R.O.C.K.: Reaching Out and Connecting Kids
    Amount Funded: $10,905

The Baker Fund is accepting proposals for its spring cycle through Feb. 15.
