OHIO's Alumni College heads to Florida this February
Join fellow alumni and guests in Sarasota, Florida, on Feb. 24 for a series of engaging and intellectually stimulating lectures from notable OHIO faculty, as well was a lunchtime speech from University President Duane Nellis.
鈥淥ne of OHIO鈥檚 greatest assets is the strength of its faculty, and Alumni College provides our alumni an opportunity to learn more about what faculty are doing and researching,鈥 OHIO Alumni Association Assistant Director of Campus Relations Casey Arnold said. 鈥淭his is a unique educational opportunity for our alumni. We are very excited about the slate of classes being offered.鈥
The all-day event begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Ritz-Carlton, 1111 Ritz-Carlton Drive, Sarasota, Florida. and a can be found online. The cost is $30 per person or $50 per couple.
The day begins with breakfast and ends with a reception, where you can mingle with fellow alumni.

鈥淓nvironment, Peacebuilding and Security: Exploring the Links,鈥 by Geoff Dabelko
Dabelko is the director of environmental studies at OHIO and associate dean at the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs. Dabelko鈥檚 presentation will focus on the connection between national security and environmental issues, and how the solutions to such problems are interconnected.
鈥淭o Buy or Not to Buy: That Is the Question,鈥 by Colin Gabler
Did you ever fall prey to going-out-of-stock sales? Gabler, assistant professor of marketing in the OHIO College of Business, investigates the strategies businesses use to sell products. In this lecture, you will engage in experiments to understand the concepts of scarcity, pricing, discounts, risk and regret. Learn how retail businesses utilize the concepts in their marketing strategies.
鈥淵ou Are Getting Sleepy: The Effects of Sleep on the Brain and Cognition,鈥 by Julie Suhr
Suhr, a professor in the Department of Psychology at OHIO and director of clinical training for the clinical psychology doctoral program, presents her research on the relationship between sleep and cognitive changes in aging. Learn about how good sleep is central to the brain and daily function.
鈥淓ncore Careers: Finding Meaning in Our Work after Retirement,鈥 by Tom Davis
Thousands of baby boomers are retiring every day. But that doesn鈥檛 mean they are retiring from working. Davis, OHIO鈥檚 interim vice president for University Advancement, will talk about the transition from work to retirement, and how many retirees are embarking on encore careers that combine meaning, a continued income and social impact during this new phase of life.
