Columnist Bob Ryan to discuss the sports media during 90 Minutes Series talk Feb. 7

The E.W. Scripps School of Journalism will host a “90 Minutes Series” candid conversation with Bob Ryan, a retired Boston Globe sports columnist and current ESPN TV personality, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7 in Schoonover 145.

Student Pete Nakos will serve as the moderator for the discussion. The talk is free and open to the public.

Bob Ryan, 71, spent most of his career at the Boston Globe covering the local sports teams. Now, he is probably more known for his TV work on ESPN on popular shows like “The Sports Reporters,” “Pardon the Interruption” and “Around the Horn.”

During his talk, the 1968 Boston College graduate will discuss the future of sports media and share some of the most memorable moments from his 50-year career.

The talk is part of the “90 Minutes” series, which was developed last academic year to create discussions on politics, racism, sexism and global topics. The series exposed students to people who have faced adversity or who have seen bigotry and discrimination happen for others, but have stepped forward to address those social and cultural wrongs.

Additional sponsors of the “90 Minutes” series include: Black Student Communication Caucus; Associated Press Sports Editors; Housing and Residence Life; Office of Student Affairs; E.W. Scripps School of Journalism; Scripps College Diversity Committee; Office for Diversity and Inclusion; Honors Tutorial College; Center for Law, Justice and Culture; Institute for Applied and Professional Ethics, Political Science Department and the Office of the President.
