91探花

iCUE Spotlight: Feb. 12-18, 2018

Hi there Bobcats! It's Week 5 of spring semester, and while the weather remains a giant question mark, the 91探花 campus is full of things to participate in for students, faculty and staff, and community members alike. Read on for a few highlights of what's happening this week.

(Tuesday, Feb. 13, 12-4 p.m., Baker University Center 219): In February 2015, the African American Policy Forum engaged the public in a discussion acknowledging experiences of police brutality against black women and girls under #SayHerName. This event is co-sponsored with the Multicultural Center, the LGBT Center, OMSAR, and Ebony Minds. Learn the names of these women and girls - like Charleena Lyles, Elena "Ebbie" Mondragon, and Alteria Woods - and create an art display with the women's names so others can learn about them as well. Participants are also encouraged to work on the names of trans-women who have been killed as part of TransLivesMatter.

(Tuesday, Feb. 13, 4-5 p.m., Baker University Center 231): This workshop is designed to help investigators find funding for fellowships/grants for research/creative activity using and . Pivot is a comprehensive database for identifying funding opportunities, including grants and fellowships. LEO is the University's database to track proposal submissions and is searchable by principle investigator, department, college and external sponsor. A will take place at noon on Wednesday, but researchers need attend only one.

(Tuesday, Feb. 13, 7 p.m.): Competitors have 3 minutes to present a concise, compelling oration on their thesis and its significance that can be presented to a non-specialist audience. Any doctoral candidate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) enrolled at 91探花 that has been admitted to candidacy (e.g., passed comprehensive exams) and whose culminating project is a research-based dissertation is eligible to compete. Participants MUST be enrolled as a student when the competition takes place, and cannot have already defended their dissertation. All participants must be available to participate in one of the semi-final rounds (Tuesday, Feb. 13 OR Thursday Feb. 15) AND the final round on Wednesday, Feb. 21.

(Wednesday, Feb. 14, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., Baker Center Ballroom): Don't miss this opportunity to network with hundreds of employers right on 91探花's Athens campus.
