Accessible OHIO: Four things in promotional materials that make an event more accessible

What four things can I include in promotional materials to make an event more accessible?

91探花 is committed to making our events accessible to all participants. Whether your event is a department meeting, orientation program, or major performing arts event, here are four things an event planner/organizer can do, in advance, to facilitate access. In your promotional materials:

1.    Briefly describe what a person can expect when they attend your event (i.e., walking along a brick path with occasional steps; auditorium seating 200 people where speaker uses microphone; amphitheater seating with rail along steps, four hour event with a 10 minute break about every hour, food provided).

2.    Include a statement on how to request accommodations: 鈥淚f you need alternative format materials, ASL interpreter, or other accommodation to attend this event, please contact NAME at NAME@ohio.edu or 740.XXX.XXXX, at least one week before the event.鈥

3.    Provide statement encouraging attendees to refrain from use of fragrances. "Persons attending this event are encouraged to refrain from using perfume, cologne, scented soaps, and other fragrances in order to provide a comfortable environment for all individuals."

4.    Provide information about the availability of accessible parking, transit options, or drop-off points closest to the event.
