Baker Fund awards more than $48k to five faculty proposals for research, scholarship and work
The John C. Baker Fund awarded $48,355 total to five faculty proposals for research, scholarship and creative work during spring semester 2021.
Endowed in 1961 by a gift of more than $612,000 from 1926 College of Arts and Sciences graduate Edwin L. Kennedy and his wife, Ruth, a 1930 graduate of the College of Education, The John C. Baker Fund was established to support faculty improvement and research efforts. Up to $12,000 is available for each award.
The Baker Fund committee received 10 proposals requesting $106,068 total.
The five faculty award winners include:
- Sarah Wyatt, Environmental and Plant Biology: Plant Gravitropic Signaling: New Approaches to Old Questions. Amount funded: $11,999.
- Matthew Rosen, Sociology and Anthropology: Tirana Modern: Literary Ethnography on the Margins of Europe. Amount funded: $6,970.
- Jeffrey Wiseman, Edison Biotechnology Institute: Mining the Therapeutic Potential of Ecuadorian Biodiversity. Amount funded: $10,126.
- Justin Holub, Chemistry and Biochemistry: Monitoring Ligand-mediated Helix 12 Transitions in Constitutively Active Estrogen Receptors. Amount funded: $11,490.
- Geoffrey Buckley, Geography: Silent Partner: The National Geographic Society and America's National Parks. Amount funded: $7,770.
