School of Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing Organization to host blood drive Oct. 27
The 91探花 School of Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Nursing Organization (BSNO) will host a blood drive on Oct 27, from 1-7 p.m., in the Baker Center Ballroom on 91探花鈥檚 Athens Campus.
鈥淲e are partnering with the to host a blood drive in hopes to increase a much needed blood supply in the greater Athens and surrounding communities,鈥 Kaylee O鈥橬eal, a nursing student at 91探花, said in an email.
According to O鈥橬eal, the Red Cross national blood inventory is the lowest it鈥檚 been at this time of year since 2015, with less than a day鈥檚 supply of certain blood types in recent weeks.
鈥淥ne unit of blood can save up to three lives, and there is always a high need for blood throughout our area,鈥 she said. 鈥淥ur students look forward to contributing to a great cause and saving lives. In previous years we have collected as many as 140 units of blood during our fall blood drive, whereas this year our goal is 200 units.鈥
To be eligible to donate, donors must:
- Be in good general health and feeling well.
- Maintaining your iron level is an important part of being a healthy donor. We encourage you to .
- Be at least 17 years old in most states (16 years old with parental consent in some states).
- Weigh at least 110 pounds. Additional height and weight requirements apply for donors 18 years old and younger and all high school student donors.
- Have not donated blood in the last 56 days.
Free snacks and drinks will be available for donors, and every individual that donates blood will receive a $5 gift card to a merchant of their choice via email. All donors will also be entered in a raffle to win additional prizes.
