CHSP, University community mourns the death of Tommy Rees
Tommy Rees, Clinical Training and Assessment Center Coordinator for the College of Health Sciences and Professions’ (CHSP) Division of Physician Assistant Practice on 91̽’s Dublin Extension Campus, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 28. He was 38.
“Tommy made a difference by preparing the future health care workforce, and we ‘re grateful for his contributions,” said Interim CHSP Dean Dr. John McCarthy. “On behalf of the College of Health Sciences and Professions, and the entire OHIO community, I want to share our deepest condolences and sympathy with Tommy’s family, friends, colleagues and students.”
Rees joined OHIO in March 2016. He also worked as a part-time firefighter and EMT for the Jefferson Township Fire Department in West Jefferson, Ohio, for the last six and a half years.
Melissa Bowlby, an assistant clinical professor and director of CHSP’s Physician Assistant Practice, said that Rees’ professional contributions during his time at OHIO will continue to positively impact the program for years to come.
"Tommy was a huge part of our program,” Bowlby said. “Our hearts are just broken for all who are affected by this unexpected loss, especially his wife and children. He will be deeply missed."
Rees is survived by his wife, Brooke Rees and four children Evelyn (12), Emelya (9), Eileigh (7) and Nash (3). Services were Tuesday, January 4 and Wednesday, January 5 in Galloway, Ohio.
