The professors and fellows of the Charles J. Ping Institute for the Teaching of the Humanities invite colleagues in the humanities at 91探花 to an online faculty symposium on "ISIS: A History" from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27.

The symposium features Dr. Fawaz A. Gerges, professor of international relations and professor in contemporary Middle East studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is the author of numerous books on the Middle East, including: (Princeton University Press, March 2018); (Palgrave Macmillan, September 2015); (Cambridge University Press, January 2014), (Palgrave Macmillan, September 2013).

"Dr. Gerges will attend the seminar to join us in discussing the new edition of his book:  (Princeton, 2021), in which he explores the reasons behind the rise of ISIS and the deeper conditions that continue to fuel it, and in which he discusses how the ongoing Syrian, Iraqi, and Saudi-Iranian conflict could lead to ISIS鈥檚 revival," said Director of the Ping Institute Fred Drogula, Ph.D., the Charles J. Ping Professor of Humanities and professor of classics and religious studies in the College of Arts and Sciences.
