Get into shape this spring at the Ping Center

With spring just around the corner, March is Athletic Training Month and the Ping Center has many great programs and activities to help you reach your fitness goals.

鈥淲hatever your goals are, from a fitness perspective, our personal trainers can help you work on that. If you want group fitness and comradery you can attend any of our yoga, dance, or hip-hop classes. For patrons that want to do stuff on their own, they can just come into Ping and work on their goals. There are all types of options and hopefully we could find one that works for them,鈥 said Tony Gregory assistant director of well-being and fitness.

There are many group fitness activities available this semester.

Women and Weights (formerly called 鈥淏obcat Bar-belles鈥) is a semester-long power-lifting program for women, focusing on the three basic power-lifting moves 鈥 squat, deadlift, and bench press. Students can join at anytime throughout the semester.

鈥淭hey work with a trainer twice per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m.), and the mission of the program is to build community and help women grow, and teach ways to reach their fitness goals. It鈥檚 for women who want to gain more confidence in the gym but also want to meet new people,鈥 Gregory said.

The is also offered this semester. Developed in Australia, F45 Training combines elements of High-Intensity Interval Training, Circuit Training, and Functional Training. The fusion of these three training concepts has led to the development of 27 different 45-minute workout experiences, with more in development. This combination of interval, cardiovascular and strength training has been proven to be the most effective workout method for burning fat and building lean muscle.

鈥淲e are doing a frequent F45 goer incentive. Once a month, the top attendee for F45 gets an F45 duffel bag. We鈥檙e doing that each month,鈥 Gregory said.

If you鈥檙e interested in more incentives, on March 13-19 the Ping Center will host March Go for the Gold with Group Fitness. Visitors can register to win a free set of Apple AirPods.

Visitors can also sign up with a personal trainer to work more one-on-one to meet fitness goals. Request forms are available on the Ping Center website.

鈥淧ersonal training isn鈥檛 for everyone, but it is for somebody who has fitness goals; maybe they understand what they should be doing but they just want the accountability. They want a friend or somebody who is going to be there to support them to reach their goals,鈥 Gregory said. 鈥淵ou can request that you work with a particular gender if you鈥檙e more comfortable. You can request a certain skillset that you want your trainer to have.鈥

Whatever your goals or your interests, there are programs to help almost anyone meet their fitness goals at the Ping Center. For more information, visit the Ping Center, or contact Tony Gregory at gregorya1@ohio.edu, or call 740-593-9918.
