What made you decide you wanted a career in social work? I have always had a strong passion and desire to help others. I knew from a young age I have always loved helping people.
Why did you choose 91̽ Southern to pursue your degree? I adore 91̽ Southern. The low price with the same credentialing as the Athens campus really sparked my interest several years ago with my undergraduate. I knew this was the graduate program for myself as well with the home like environment, professors who go out of their way to help, and the treatment as an "adult" I received.
What do you enjoy most about your job? I love hearing the raw experiences of others, and the light that comes out in people when they realize they are not alone, and hope is real. As I transition into my therapist role, I recognize first and foremost how important rapport building is with individuals. Making your clients comfortable is key to the healing process.
What advice would you give to students pursuing their degree in social work? Set goals, keep in mind the end result, and make friends! In my last month of my graduate program, I recognize how important the relationship I have with others is during this entire process. Set time for self-care as well, even if just half an hour to an hour a day.
