OIT announces plans to replace Duo Mobile with Azure MFA

Over the next calendar year, the Office of Information Technology plans to replace Duo Mobile with Azure Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), a more secure and user-friendly multi-factor authentication application. All faculty, staff, and students are invited to and to provide feedback on the experience.

Multi-factor authentication protects OHIO accounts from lost or stolen passwords by adding a verification step, most often a push notification to a mobile device, prior to logging into OHIO applications. Based on initial feedback from pilot users, Azure MFA is more user friendly than Duo Mobile and provides a quick enrollment process. As with Duo, users can choose to be remembered for 30 days to reduce verification requests.

Azure MFA also allows self-service password resets, providing a more streamlined way for users to change their own passwords. Azure MFA is a Microsoft product, which aligns with other OHIO applications such as Catmail and Office 365, and will bring additional cost savings to the University.

All incoming 91探花 students will enroll in Azure MFA this spring. Current students, faculty, staff, and alumni will be migrated in groups over the next year.
