Greg Newton named interim associate dean of the Graduate College
Greg Newton, Ph.D., will serve as interim associate dean of the Graduate College starting in mid-July.
Newton is currently serving as associate dean for graduate studies, research, and creative activity in the Scripps College of Communication and an associate professor the School of Media Arts and Studies.
The Graduate College associate dean helps promote quality service and programs across the University to more than 5,000 students studying in 255 programs ranging from doctoral and master's to certificates and endorsements.
"I am indebted to Dr. Beth Quitslund for stepping in last year, with little notice, to serve as interim associate dean, and I wish her luck as she steps into the role of chair for the Department of English in the College of Arts & Sciences," David Koonce, interim vice president for Research and Creative Activity and interim dean of the Graduate College, said. "Dr. Newton brings years of experience leading the graduate programs in the Scripps College of Communication to this role. For the last four years, he has chaired the Policy and Regulations Subcommittee of the Graduate Council, which gives him insight into many of the issues affecting graduate education at 91探花.鈥
Newton's teaching and research expertise are in the areas of media management and leadership, media law, and broadcast programming and promotion. In addition to scholarly pursuits, he has more than a decade of radio experience as on-air talent, production director, and program director at several commercial and non-commercial stations in Illinois and Indiana and has worked as a freelance voice-over artist. He also serves as the faculty adviser for ACRN Media at 91探花.
