OHIO promotes long history of preserving historic buildings through new website

The iconic buildings of Ohio鈥檚 oldest university are a crucial part of the experience of every Bobcat. For that reason, 91探花 has dedicated itself over the decades, and particularly in the 2000s, to preserving the buildings and spaces where students learn, live and play, particularly in areas like College Green, The Ridges, and South Court Street.

The University has launched a new website that shares enhancements and investments in the historic character. Our goal is to preserve buildings that are suitable for academic or administrative use and enhance them for the modern era.

This work happens on every green, from the massive renovations of buildings of the former Athens Asylum on to repurposing iconic spaces such as the former Baker University Center 鈥 now Schoonover Center 鈥 and upgrading century-old buildings like Ellis Hall to be suitable for modern educational goals.

鈥淭he sense of place we have here is so important to us and to our students and alumni. We want to do everything we can to protect that,鈥 Associate Vice President for University Planning Shawna Wolfe said. 鈥淥ur campus is one of the most beautiful in the nation, with iconic landmarks and special places everywhere you look or engage. Preserving that character and integrity of our setting while aligning with current and future needs is one of our top priorities.鈥

The new website documents just some of the upgrades that have been made on each of the greens, including the new Union Green, home of the new Heritage Hall and future home of the Russ Research Opportunity Center now under renovation.
