College of Arts and Sciences seeks nominations for Faculty Advisory Committee
The College of Arts and Sciences is seeking nominations for a Faculty Advisory Committee by Sept. 28.
"Feedback and input from faculty is critical for our college to thrive, and we continue to explore how we can create more channels of mutual communication. This College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Advisory Committee is one of these steps. It will connect the college leadership and our faculty in an effective way," said Morgan Vis, the college's associate dean for faculty, graduate studies and research, professor of environmental and plant biology and a member of the molecular and cellular biology program.
Given the breadth of the College of Arts and Sciences and recognizing the importance of including the faculty voice in key decisions, the committee will serve in an advisory capacity by providing input and feedback on college policies and initiatives, as well as guidance on University procedures and priorities.
The committee's responsibilities include:
- Provide input on potential policies, procedures, and initiatives in development for A&S.
- Offer feedback on current policies and procedures in A&S leading to improvement of processes.
- Inform the dean’s office regarding the impact of University-led initiatives on wider college community.
- In consultation with the broader college faculty community, bring issues that need further discussion and conversation to the attention of the A&S leadership.
The committee will be composed of nine faculty members with two faculty from each area of natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences, with representation from instructional, pre-tenure, and regional higher education faculty. The term will be two years, but those who can only serve for a year due to other commitments are also eligible.
Membership will be determined by a two-step process. First, nominations and self-nominations will be sought for the categories of natural sciences, humanities, social sciences, instructional, pre-tenure, and Regional Higher Education. Faculty may be nominated for more than one category if appropriate.  A ballot derived from the nominations will be sent to all A&S faculty for voting.  The committee will be co-led by the associate dean and a faculty member.
The committee will meet on Teams for one hour every month. The monthly time commitment will be two to three hours, including the meeting time and preparation.
