Green Games return to 91探花 this fall
The 91探花 Athletics-Sustainability Working Group, a group of representatives from Campus Recycling and Zero Waste, the Office of Sustainability, the Appalachia Ohio Zero Waste Initiative, the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service, and , is continuing the Green Games initiative they started last year.
During Green Games, volunteers will help fans to properly dispose of their waste. With recycling and compost bins throughout the stadiums, guests will be directed to recycle their cans, paper, and plastics, and to compost any food waste. Also, members of the Athletics-Sustainability Working Group and student volunteers will provide services, activities and information about sustainability at 91探花
Fall 2023 Green Games and their sustainability themes
- Field Hockey: Food and Transportation 鈥 Oct. 6, 12 p.m., Pruitt Field
- Soccer: Compost and Grounds 鈥 Oct. 12, 4 p.m., Chessa Field
- Volleyball: Climate 鈥 Oct. 13, 7 p.m., Convocation Center
- Football: Waste 鈥 Oct. 21, Peden Stadium
This year, each game will have a theme based on the categories in the OHIO Sustainability and Climate Action Plan. At the field hockey game, there will be a bike valet parking service to encourage sustainable transportation to the game, and a farmer鈥檚 market with produce for sale from the OHIO Student Farm. At the soccer game, members of the Athletics-Sustainability Working Group will discuss OHIO鈥檚 composting efforts and how the resulting soil amendment is used on campus grounds. At the volleyball game, the Climate and Sustainability Ambassadors will be tabling to share their efforts on campus and in the community to promote sustainability. At the football game, volunteers will be sorting all waste into trash, recycling, and compost bins as part of the Campus Race to Zero Waste鈥檚
Many new and returning 鈥淧layers for the Planet鈥 will be highlighted at the games for their care about the environment. The current Players for the Planet are cross country runner Sarah Liederbach, field hockey player Sasha Dikotla, Marching 110 player Bailey Buell, volleyball players Leah Rodgers and Sam Steele, soccer player Haley Miller, and baseball player Clay Cutter.
