Alden Library鈥檚 sixth floor to undergo renovations to further the student experience
The sixth floor of 91探花鈥檚 Alden Library will close starting Thursday, June 20, 2024, for renovations to enhance the student experience by creating new study spaces and seating options.
According to Robin Wooten, facilities manager, the renovations will allow for more seating and study options for students on the sixth floor. In addition to creating more study spaces, the renovations will also allow for more natural lighting to come in from the coveted floor-to-ceiling windows positioned along both sides of the floor. New carpeting and furniture will also be added to ensure more comfortability.
鈥淲e have found by going around and checking the building that students really like to sit and study near the natural light in the windows, so this will give quite a bit more space [to] open up those floors for students to have seating to do that,鈥 Wooten said.
As a result of this renovation, the sixth floor will be temporarily offline to accommodate the planned renovations. The closure is anticipated to last until the completion of the renovation, projected to be early August. According to the Office of Design and Construction, intermittent noise and construction foot traffic may be expected during the project.
During the closure, the sixth-floor book stacks will be closed but available by request for pick-up. Individuals can request books by going online and clicking the 鈥渞equest鈥 button in the Libraries鈥 ALICE catalog, and then logging in with their Ohio ID. A notification will be sent to the patron鈥檚 email when the book is ready for pick up, typically within five business days.
鈥淎s the project progresses, Library staff will help users access the books they need safely,鈥 Miriam Nelson, interim assistant dean for Collections and Digitization Strategies, said. 鈥淩equesting books online for pick up is an easy way to get what you need quickly, and it's always an option for any book that circulates. If you're unsure if the floor is open or need assistance requesting a book, the staff at the second and fourth floor service desks will be happy to help.鈥
