Add New Content

  • Log in and Navigate Drupal CMS

This 5-minute video demonstrates how to log in and navigate to your site pages in Drupal. Learn how to find your site pages and how to save your edits.

After you log in to Drupal, navigate through the screens to find your list of Nodes.

Each piece of content in the Web CMS is called a Node. You can add new content by selecting Add new content at the top of a Nodes list:.

This will display a page listing the available content types. Clicking the name of a content type will take editors to the creation page for that type. Instructions for each of the different page types are found under Page Types.

File Name and URL Guidelines

URLs for webpages should follow these naming conventions to be consistent across our site, be recognizable for users, and to improve our chances of being found in search engine results:

  • Keep them clear and concise (typically URLs match the page title or popular keywords related to the page鈥檚 subject).
  • Always use a hyphen to separate words. For example, the URL ohio.edu/scripps-college is preferred over ohio.edu/scrippscollege because it is easier for users to read/remember, and search engines can interpret them more easily.
  • Avoid including connector words such as 鈥渢he鈥 or 鈥渁nd.鈥 These aren鈥檛 necessary and don鈥檛 add any value to the URL.
  • Use all lowercase letters.
  • Do not use special characters, like & ! %.
  • Avoid using acronyms. For example, ohio.edu/scripps-college/mdia was updated to ohio.edu/scripps-college/media-arts-studies in the last year to help improve search rankings.
  • If a shorter URL is needed for use on marketing materials (think postcards, billboards, emails, or if you want something quick and easy for users to remember), you can request a vanity URL through UCM's request form. Example:  redirects to a page with a longer URL.

A note while we鈥檙e on the subject: In order to update the URL of a Drupal webpage, you must access the node through its designated group in Drupal. You cannot change the URL by directly visiting the webcms version of the page and selecting 鈥渆dit鈥 from there 鈥 you must select 鈥渆dit node鈥 from the group itself. This is a known bug in the Drupal system.
