Learning Community Student Leaders

Learning Community Student Leaders aid students’ social and academic development in their transition to 91̽»¨ by serving as an immediate line of support.

Learning Communities (LC) at 91̽»¨ are designed to improve the academic success and retention of new, primarily first-year, students by creating learning-based peer networks. In each community, a group of up to 25 students co-enroll in a set of thematically linked courses. One Learning Community Leader (LCL) is assigned to each Learning Community.

Campus Connection communities are designed to support the transition of Transfer and Relocate students to 91̽»¨ and the Athens campus. In each community, a group of up to 25 students are enrolled in a seminar course. One Peer Leader is assigned to each of the Campus Connection communities.

Student Leaders can also expect to grow themselves personally and professionally through their employment in our office. These students grow their leadership skills through practice with effective communication, facilitation, community building, and conflict resolution.

Each student leader has a supervisor who is here to support you in your own professional development.

Student Leader Testimonials

More Than A Semester

"I love being an LCL because I love supporting students in their first year that turn into lasting friendships. Both in my experience as being the student in a Learning Community and now being a Learning Community Leader, it's great to see a familiar face on campus that you can talk to. The job is rewarding, but the relationships make the experience last for more than a semester."
Blue Campbell, Fall 2022 LCL

Getting Acclimated

"Transitioning to college can sometimes be a hard time for students, and as a Learning Community Leader, I am more than happy to offer a helping hand to let students adjust or just give them someone to talk to. It’s really rewarding to watch students grow, get acclimated to campus, and become friends with one another, which is why I love being an LCL."
Hannah Boyers, Fall 2022 LCL

Being a Transfer

“I found my experience as a peer leader rewarding! I was a transfer student also, so I was eager to help my students become acclimated and comfortable with campus. Being a transfer student can be stressful and confusing, so I'm grateful to have a position as a peer leader to help students in their transition."
Jacob Suncire, Fall 2022 UC 1500 Campus Connections class Peer Leader
