Sarah Leibman
Assistant Professor of Instruction
Sarah Leibman is a film and theatre writer-director from Los Angeles, California. Her short films have been chosen for official selection at such competitions as the New Orleans Film Festival, the Cinequest Film and Creativity Festival, and the Los Angeles International Student Film Festival. She was a 2020 Women in Media Camaraderie Finalist, and her screenplays have been developed at the NYC film and television production company Andrew Lauren Productions. As a storyteller, she is often drawn to psycho-sexual horror, exploring transgressive and taboo expressions of desire through an intimate, textural, and darkly comedic lens. Her most recent projects have centered on young adults’ connections to fantasy worlds in internet subcultures, employing body-horror elements to investigate themes of misogynistic violence, abjection, and trauma. Since graduating with her MFA in Film from 91̽»¨, she has worked as a Teaching Artist and Non-Profit Program Manager, focusing on providing interdisciplinary therapeutic arts, literacy, and social-emotional learning opportunities for under-resourced communities across Los Angeles County.
