Graduate Programs in Theater

The School of Theater is comprised of three areas that offer graduate degrees: Performance, Playwriting and Theater History (PATH), and Production, Design and Technology (PD&T).

91̽»¨ alumni (stretching back to the 1940s) can be found working across the United States and in all major theater cities.

Our exceptional faculty are committed to supporting the depth and development of your theatrical practice through the following programs.

Master of Fine Arts Offerings (Three-Year)

Our M.F.A. programs are three-year programs that refine student knowledge of theater making with the best professional values and standards. The M.F.A. degree path provides students an opportunity to examine and uplift the skills, values, and standards that form a bridge to high functioning careers in the theater.

One-Year Programs

The M.A., M.A.A. (Master of Arts Administration) and M.Ed. (Master of Education) are one-year programs of study meant for students who have a pre-determined focus that can be accomplished within a relatively intensive period. The M.Ed in Theater Education leads to Licensure in K-12 Education.

Professor Experience

Our faculty are passionate about their careers as educators and practicing professional artists. With a rich network of professional connections, 91̽»¨ School of Theater faculty are continuously working in major regional theaters; students are often invited to accompany faculty on these projects.

Professional Internships

M.F.A. students are required to fulfill a professional internship during their tenure, and many are placed at national theaters and summer stock programs. M.F.A. performers have the ability to gain Actor's Equity points, should they so choose, by working with the School of Theater's professional theater company, Tantrum Theater.

Research Resources

The School of Theater offers a variety of performance venues, actor studios, production workshops, and open access to modern technologies for all students accepted into the program. Some graduate students, especially production shop managers, may be allocated additional office space.
