B.F.A. in Production Design and Technology
The Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Production Design and Technology allows students to study broadly in all areas of design and production or specialize in design of scenery, costumes, lighting, and sound. Technology specialization includes technical direction, costume technology or props technology (artisanship).
Students may enter the B.F.A. in Production Design and Technology directly through interviews and portfolio reviews, or they may enter through the B.A. in Theater and interview and submit a portfolio at the end of the first year.
What You'll Learn
- Design and technology skills, concepts and techniques are taught in a series of courses and special projects throughout the four-year curriculum.
- Productions are prepared under the close personal advisement and participation of the production faculty and staff.
- Qualified students are challenged with major creative technical or managerial responsibilities.
- Qualified upper level students assist our faculty on their professional design productions at theaters such as Cleveland Play House, Alley Theater, the REP at University of Delaware and Indiana Repertory Theater.
Career Opportunities
91̽»¨ Production Design and Technology students and alumni are hired in summer jobs and full time positions at theaters like Santa Fe Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Studio Theatre in DC and Utah Shakespeare Festival. Design students chose to go directly to work in the New York, Chicago, Los Angeles or other major markets. There are OHIO alumni in all major markets!
