Registration open for new course in Professional Development Pathways program

The first two certificates within OHIO Professional Development Pathways program opened for participation on Wednesday, August 1. The 鈥淯niversity Accounting鈥 and 鈥淯niversity Purchasing鈥 certificates are made up of several new courses which will be launched over the next six months. Many other non-certificate courses are also available. Be sure to check out the following new courses for OHIO employees.

COA Fundamentals

The Chart of Accounts (COA) Fundamentals course is a core requirement for both of the new certificates, and it is a prerequisite for several other courses. This is an instructor-led course that is only offered at set times, so interested employees should discuss participation opportunities with their supervisors and register for one of the scheduled course times as soon as possible. For those who attended the Chart of Accounts Fundamentals course as part of the Financial System Enhancements project, the content has been updated to include additional information regarding the object segment and the function segment. References to the old Chart have been removed.

This course will last approximately four hours, including breaks, discussion, and time reserved at the end to complete the skills assessment.

Objectives:

  • Define concepts and terms of the Chart of Accounts
  • Describe the General Ledger and Grants Account Structures
  • Describe hierarchies within segments
  • Determine where to find and how to use tools for the Chart of Accounts

Cash Handling and Credit Card Security Awareness

This course provides an overview of the cash handling responsibilities for collecting cash, checks, and credit cards. It also covers required safeguards, internal controls, and responsibilities for PCI compliance.

This course is an e-learning course that can be taken at the participant鈥檚 own pace. Estimated time for completion is approximately two hours.

Objectives:

By the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • Examine the principles of effective cash handling
  • Identify Risks and internal controls
  • Recognize counterfeit currency
