Public Records Requests

Public records requests can be made in person, over the telephone, or online.  Records will be released in accordance with the provisions of the Ohio Public Records Act and policy 40.007 and may be subject to legal review prior to release. The response time is dependent upon the clarity of the request and whether we have a legal obligation to redact information that is protected by state or federal law.

To place a public records request, please contact the Office of Legal Affairs by phone at 740-593-2626 or send an email to legalaffairs@ohio.edu.

Media requests may also be made to the Office of University Communications and Marketing at media@ohio.edu. Requests for law enforcement records may also be made to OUPD at policerecords@ohio.edu.

Disclaimer: A person requesting public records need not identify themselves or the reason for which they seek the records. Providing such information to the Legal Affairs Office is entirely voluntary, although it can often clarify and expedite the release of records.
