Office of Global Opportunities is accepting applications, proposals for two virtual programs
The Office of Global Opportunities (OGO) is dedicated to their mission of supporting global mobility and international engagement at 91探花.
To continue international education while the current travel restrictions are in place, OGO put considerable effort into developing meaningful virtual global programming for the 91探花 community through their , and by building a menu of for faculty and staff, for which the team is currently accepting proposals for Spring 2021.
Virtual Global Connections Professional Development Program
The Office of Global Opportunities is excited to announce that applications are now being accepted for the : South Africa and Kenya.
The Global Connections Professional Development Initiative was created in 2019 to mobilize university faculty and staff and provide hands-on professional experiences in a global setting. The initiative strives to strengthen university-wide global engagement efforts; promote global engagement of students, faculty, and staff at OHIO; encourage strong global partnerships as well as creative and research initiatives; and foster a diverse and inclusive environment for our university community. This year the program will address those same goals from an online format.
鈥淚 am glad we were able to shift this program to a virtual format this year. While a virtual program is not a replacement for the traveling program, I am confident this virtual structure will allow for robust and meaningful professional development experiences for participants. The virtual format will allow for faculty and staff participants to see virtual programming from a student鈥檚 point of view,鈥 said Dr. Catherine Marshall, director of global opportunities.
The virtual program will take place Friday mornings during spring semester, with weekly meetings and a mixture of synchronous and asynchronous content. During this program, participants will learn about the culture, history, and education systems of South Africa and Kenya, and connect with colleagues abroad. In the second half of the semester, participants will be linked with colleagues or organizations to explore collaborative and mutually beneficial projects.
Participants from the previously cancelled May 2020 cohort will have first priority in participation for this virtual cohort. Due to the virtual nature of this year鈥檚 program, it is possible to have more participants on the program in the spring.

Virtual Global Experiences in the Classroom
OGO is soliciting proposals for spring 2021 implementation of virtual global experiences. Proposals will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis. For full consideration please submit by Dec. 16, 2020. Visit for more information about these opportunities and for a link to the proposal submission process.
Virtual global experiences cover a wide array of offerings, including collaborative projects, cultural activities, guest lectures, and video series that can be easily incorporated into existing course materials and co-curricular activities. Synchronous, asynchronous, and hybrid content is available and can be customized to your curricular or co-curricular needs.
These activities offer an opportunity to continue international education while the current travel restrictions are in place. However, OGO also realizes this presents a larger opportunity for 91探花.
鈥淲e are looking forward to continuing this service in the future even after travel restrictions are lifted. These activities allow us to assist in internationalizing the curriculum by offering global education experiences to students who might not otherwise have one. We hope these opportunities become a stepping-stone for future international engagement,鈥 said Keely Davin, associate director of global opportunities.
