Classified Senate has named Julie Masterson, employment coordinator for the College of Arts and Sciences, the Employee of the Month for December 2020.
This recognition is Classified Senate’s way of awarding those employees who have shown outstanding individual achievement and performance of their jobs, while inspiring and supporting the achievement of others.
Criteria for selection include:
- Positive attitude and serving as a role model;
- Productivity and commitment to quality;
- Initiative and taking on additional responsibilities
Masterson was nominated by Zach Meisel. The following is a sample of the comments made about Masterson in the nomination:
“Julie is an outstanding employee because she makes the hiring process fast, efficient and as painless as possible, while maintaining excellent communication. Her accomplishments include bringing a job posting from the initial email to the College of Arts and Sciences all the way to being posted online in less than a week, and at the close of the posting, getting approval for interview lists within a day. This is more than twice as fast as my previous experiences. Her speed and efficiency have been critical to the success of my two most recent postings, where time has been of the essence due to project deadlines.”
“A key to Julie’s success is her impeccable communication. Julie ends every email exchange with a note about who has to do what next, whether it be the next task for her to complete or for me and the hiring committee to complete. This brings clarity and efficiency to the hiring process. She also pays close attention to details, which has kept my hiring paperwork mistake free.”
“Julie Masterson has had a notable positive impact on hiring related to research at the Edwards Accelerator Lab, which has helped us bring key personnel on board in a timely fashion. We are extremely pleased with Julie’s responsiveness and efficiency.”
Masterson recently answered some get-to-know you questions:
How long have you worked at your job?
I have been with the University for seven years and as an employment coordinator with the College of Arts and Sciences since July.
What are the most enjoyable things about your job?
As an employment coordinator, it has provided me the opportunity to get to know the faculty and staff within the college and learn of the great work that is being done here at 91̽. We can read of their accomplishments, but getting to know the individuals has been really nice. I also feel fortunate to work with the great group of people within the college’s service center.
If you weren’t in your present job, you would be working as a ___?
Travel agent in Hawaii and as a weekend groupie for Keith Urban.
What hobbies or interests do you enjoy pursuing when you’re not at work?
Reading, playing cards with friends (miss this one), cooking and an occasional game of golf.
What is something that most people don’t know about you?
There’s not much to tell, but here’s one little thing. While vacationing, I really enjoy seeing the palm trees, especially the ones on a beach near an ocean. My family laughs at me, as most of the vacation photos have a palm tree in them.
What is your favorite saying or quote?
It is one by Vince Lombardi. “It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get up.” This is simple but fits the many facets of a person’s life.
