Employee affinity organizations build community
91探花 is proud to be home to a number of affinity organizations for University faculty and staff. Affinity organizations are formed around a shared identity, common bond and a commitment to invest in the professional development of historically marginalized or underrepresented groups of faculty and staff and have a direct impact on employee engagement, community and togetherness.
While affinity organizations are independent organizations, they are recognized and supported by both University Human Resources and the Division of Diversity and Inclusion and work in collaboration with one another through the Affinity Organization Council.
鈥淎ffinity Organizations are such a vital part of community-building,鈥 said Cat Russell of Out OHIO and the Affinity Organization Council. 鈥淭hey not only foster a sense of belonging but also provide wonderful avenues for collaboration, service and engagement.鈥
Michael Rodriguez is an Affinity Organization Council representative and Latino Caucus member. 鈥淭he 91探花 Latino Caucus aims to provide support to faculty and staff within the spectrum of Latinx cultures through inclusive programmatic events, promoting advancement, access and retention. Somos unidos!鈥 he said.
Karen Collins is an Affinity Organization Council representative and 91探花 Women鈥檚 Club member. 鈥淏obcats celebrate diversity and offer support of one another. Affinity organizations provide a place for us to band together to foster kinship of others who identify as we do,鈥 she said.
