Larry Hayman to receive national award for advising excellence

91探花鈥檚 Larry Hayman, Esq., will be honored with the Excellence in Pre-Law Advising Award during an award ceremony on Dec. 11.

The is presenting Hayman with the award during a virtual ceremony. The national award recognizes a pre-law advisor who demonstrates excellence in all aspects of their position and who has made significant efforts to increase diversity within the legal progression.

Hayman serves as the director of Legal Engagement and Pre-Law Program at 91探花鈥檚 Center for Law, Justice and Culture and is a member of OHIO鈥檚 Career Services staff.

鈥淥n paper, Larry is an advisor/career coach, but in reality, he鈥檚 much more than that; he鈥檚 a mentor to OHIO students,鈥 said Aaron Sturgill, executive director of career readiness for Career Services.

In his role at OHIO, Hayman offers one-on-one career coaching with students and alumni who are interested in law-related careers and postgraduate education.

In addition, he facilitates legal profession-focused workshops to elevate the knowledge of students interested in legal education and legal careers. He provides direction and support for law school, internship, job interviews and additional training opportunities for student organizations and others that align with law-related careers, such as law school resume workshops and personal statement workshops.

Hayman also organizes potential internships with students to support their professional development and job search activities. He also assists with student award nominations and letters of recommendation for law school, graduate school and internship and job placements.

Also in his work at OHIO, Hayman mentors student leaders toward specific team goals, including recruitment, programming, fundraising and career engagement.

Hayman is also an 91探花 alum, having earned a B.A. in Political Science, magna cum laude, from the College of Arts & Sciences in 2003.
