Program Overview

The B.S. degree program is chosen by students planning to enter a graduate program in chemistry or work in the chemical industry. The B.S. degree is accredited by the American Chemical Society.

Due to changes in standards for teacher licensure in the State of Ohio, the current program in chemistry is subject to change. Students interested in becoming licensed to teach chemistry at the secondary level should contact the Office of Student Services in the Patton College of Education.

Careers & Graduate School

A large number of graduates go on to take advanced degrees in all areas of chemistry and biochemistry. Graduates of the program are employed in environmental, pharmaceutical and other chemical companies throughout the country. Jobs held by recent graduates include applications lab technician, attorney, associate chemist, auditor, chemist, research and discovery chemist, chemistry and physics teacher, criminalist, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, drug analyst, environmental engineer, pharmacist, physician, QA process chemist, and technology transfer manager.

Upon completing the requirements for the B.S. degree with a major in chemistry, students are eligible for professional status in the American Chemical Society. Completion of a B.A. degree in chemistry does not qualify a student for certification.
