OGO Scholarship FAQs

When do scholarships open for application and how do I know what will be offered?

Scholarships offered may vary from year to year, and estimated timelines are indicated below. Students should check the semester prior to departure for updates:

  • Winter Break, Spring Semester, Spring Break experiences:
    • Open: Beginning of Fall semester
    • Deadline:  early October
    • Award notification: November
  • Summer, Fall Semester, and Academic Year experiences:
    • Open: Mid-Fall semester
    • Deadline:   late February/early March
    • Award notification: March/April

Note: Award notification may take up to 1 month after the application deadline, and students may need to make decisions about their program participation prior to knowing the status of funding from scholarships.

Will I receive a confirmation email of my application?

Yes! When you submit your full application, you will receive an email with a copy of your responses.

When will I know if I鈥檝e received an award?

Typically, it takes about 1 month from the application deadline for our office to distribute notifications about the awards.

If an award requires a reference letter, when is that due?

For any awards that require a reference letter (ex. Lawrie), reference letters need to be received within 1 week of the application deadline.

Your reference should submit their letter via email to: global.opportunities@ohio.edu

It is your responsibility to ensure that the required reference letter is received by the Office of Global Opportunities by the deadline, as OGO will not contact your reference on your behalf.

What if I am interested in multiple programs? How should I apply for scholarships?

In terms of having 2 or more programs that you want to apply for scholarships for in the same scholarship cycle (say a winter break and spring break program): You can only apply based on one program to any single award (ie. you could apply for First Gen for Program A, but then Lawrie for Program Bs, but not Lawrie for both Program A & B).   Most students who are exploring 2 programs tend to apply for awards based on the program with the higher overall cost.

Do I have to be accepted on an experience before I apply?

You don't have to be accepted on a program to apply for an OGO scholarship! You will want to have a program identified, but you can apply for funding regardless of where you are at in the program's application process.
