Sue and Charles Glander Study Abroad Scholarship for Romance Languages
About the Award
Sue and Charles (Chuck) Glander endowed this scholarship because of their great enjoyment of and strong belief in international travel. They both believed in life-long learning and were inveterate readers, interested in the world around them.
Since Sue finished her first year of graduate study in French at OU as a non-traditional student (she was in her 50's), she has been blessed to travel to France five times, with additional travel to Romania, Germany and South Africa. On each occasion she learned a great deal, experienced the culture of different countries, and - in France - really improved her speaking and listening skills. She found that there is no substitute for learning the target language in a native-speaking country. Upon receiving her MA in 1995 she taught French for the next eight years, principally at OU in Lancaster.
She and Chuck (d 2004) were thrilled to establish this scholarship to encourage other students to undertake this most memorable and exciting possibility of studying abroad.
