About Us

The Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education

The Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education (CORE) was an osteopathic medical education consortium that served as an Osteopathic Post-Doctoral Training Institution (OPTI) formed through affiliations between the 91探花 Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and hospitals in the state of Ohio to provide graduate medical education to osteopathic interns, residents and fellows. The CORE served to support effective osteopathic learning environments for OGME programs for the maintenance of American Osteopathic Association accreditation.

Our Mission

Supporting and sustaining a partnership to enhance osteopathic medical education for those we serve.

Our Impact

The CORE exists to protect the integrity of the osteopathic profession; provide quality education; and promote innovation, creativity and excellence in medical education. We support the development of primary care physicians and specialists, foster research and strive to develop community-based faculty to teach and administer training programs. The CORE supports and promotes the development of an infrastructure that produces osteopathic physicians who are educators, researchers and administrators with a goal to continue to expand and enhance osteopathic contributions to the nation鈥檚 health care system.

A Time of Transition

The single GME accreditation system provides for consistent methods of evaluation and accountability, it enhances opportunities for all resident physicians, and it enhances transparency to outside entities, including the federal government, licensing boards, credentials committees and the public.  To date, nearly all CORE sponsored programs have entered into the single accreditation system under ACGME. CORE will continue to operate as an OPTI, in limited capacity, and provide essential services to those residency programs operating under the American Osteopathic Association until they have trained all enrolled residents or transitioned to ACGME accreditation.
