Overview
The Special Education program offers undergraduate degrees leading to licensure in grades K-12 in the areas listed below. The program centers on the delivery of quality services and the promotion of equitable education for all students.
Major Program Code Intervention Specialist Dual Licensure
For teaching students who receive services and supports under IDEA, including students who have high support needs and students who have low support needs (e.g., specific learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, autism, emotional/behavioral disorders).BS6330
Please note: This is an Athens Campus-based program. Students may complete requirements for the first three semesters of the program at a regional campus, but must transfer to the Athens Campus by spring semester of their sophomore year in order to complete the degree.
Overseas Student Teaching
The Consortium for Overseas Student Teaching (COST) program offers teacher candidates the unique opportunity to live abroad for an entire semester while completing their professional internship. The program offers students professional and personal growth in ways that are increasingly important for living and teaching in the United States. Intervention Specialist Transfer Policy
The Intervention Specialist program allows a limited number of students from other Institutions or 91探花 Academic Programs to apply for transfer into the Intervention Specialist program for the purpose of earning a Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.Ed) Intervention Specialist degree. Any student considering transfer to the Intervention Specialist program is strongly encouraged to declare Undecided Education and meet with the Patton College of Education Academic Advising office鈥痑s early as possible to map out your pathway. A student must earn at least 50 percent of the Intervention Specialist credit hours required for the degree at 91探花.
Note.鈥疨lease note that transferring into the Intervention Specialist program at any point may extend your time to graduation beyond four years.
Current 91探花 Students
91探花 Students Outside of the Patton College of Education
- You must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 with at least 15 91探花 semester hours.
- You must apply prior to your second semester at OHIO to be on track for a four-year degree completion.
Note. 91探花 students wanting to transfer into the Intervention Specialist Program from outside of the Patton College of Education may still apply after their second semester at OHIO; however, this may delay time to graduation. For students interested in this path, please contact the Patton College of Education Academic Advising Office.
Current Patton College of Education Students
- You must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- You must have successfully completed any three of the following with a grade of no less than 鈥淐鈥: ENG 1510, EDTE 1000, PSY 1010, MATH 1101, a BRICKS Pillar, a BRICKS Arch, EDCT 2010, or EDTE 2300.
Note. If you transfer within PCOE after sophomore fall and have not yet successfully completed the EDTE 2000 Block (EDTE 2000, EDTE 2010, EDTE 2020, EDTE 2200), it will extend your time to graduation.
To Apply for 91探花 to the Intervention Specialist Program
Current 91探花 students may use the to apply for 鈥渘ext-semester鈥 admission to the Intervention Specialist program during the fall and spring semesters only. Students may apply from the third week of each semester until the Friday before Finals Week. The application requires students attach the following two documents:
- A copy of their current DARS report
- A 250-500 word academic-quality personal statement that describes how your life choices and circumstances suggest that a career as an intervention specialist is right for you. Additional details about the personal statement will appear in the online application. Writing quality will be considered.
Note. Applications are not reviewed until semester grades are finalized. Students will be notified via their OHIO email address when a decision is made. The Patton College of Education Advising Team will be available for assistance.
Students Transferring from Outside 91探花
91探花 to the Patton College of Education Intervention Specialist Program from an educational institution outside of 91探花 is selective. Application is made through 91探花 Undergraduate 91探花s. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) from the transferring institution.
In addition to the above, international students must provide documentation that confirms they have achieved the university English Proficiency requirements outlined鈥痠n the application directions for international students.
The Patton College of Education Intervention Specialist Program limits transfer credit for required Intervention Specialist courses to those courses it offers. Other transfer credit will be evaluated as electives. 91探花 requires at least 50% of coursework for a major to be completed at 91探花.
